Dr. Larry Vandeventer

Dr. Larry D. Vandeventer, 81, passed away Saturday March 21, 2020 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ky.  He was born in Greene County, Indiana on January 25, 1939, the son of Richard and Carol Vandeventer.

Larry served in the United States Navy. He retired as the Assistant Superintendent of the Avon Community School Corporation and was a Professor of Adult Education for Indiana Wesleyan University.  Prior to Avon, he worked for the Vermillion County School Corporation, Adams Central High School and Connersville High School. Dr. Vandeventer was a graduate of Worthington High School, Indiana Central Business College, and Indiana State University.

He also served as Minister for many years at several Churches of Christ in Arkansas, Louisiana and Indiana.  He was a board member and a founder of Camp Wabashi in Terre Haute.  He served on the Cummons Mental Health Board and the Avon Friends Library Board.

He has published seven books and wrote for five weekly newspapers, and taught online classes for World Bible School.  

He was a member of the New Albany Community Choir, the Merry Melodies Chorus and he attended Northside Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Carol Vandeventer and two brothers: Arkie and Richard Vandeventer. 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Wanda J. Vandeventer, 2 daughters: Kristi Miedema(Keith) and Sharla Carter(Dr. Todd), his sister: Sidney Price, 2 granddaughters: Audrey and Tess Carter, and nieces, nephews and their extended families. 

A private family funeral will be held at the Oak Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes.
