Doug Sowders, Sr, 76, of Bloomfield, Indiana passed away on October 5, 2019 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Doug was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky on August 19, 1943.

Doug was married to Sue (Roberts) Sowders on May 19, 1967, they were married for 52 wonderful years.

Doug worked as a heavy equipment operator for Mountain Drive Coal Company for several years, he worked for Victor Oolitic Stone Company as a heavy equipment mechanic for years and for the Operators Union Local #741, helping to build I69 until his retirement. Doug was a member of Pinnacle Masonic Lodge #661 of Middlesboro, Kentucky for over 50 years, he was also a member of the Bloomfield First Christian Church.

Doug is survived by his love of 52 years, Sue Sowders, a son, Doug Sowders, Jr. (Melody) of Bloomfield, daughter, Autumn Johnson (Rob) of Solsberry, his grandchildren, Kristien Lloyd (Justin), Elizabeth “Skeeter” Sowders, Amanda “SuggieBuggie” Johnson, Jake “Hotrod” Johnson, a great-grandson, Maverick Lloyd, one niece and several nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, John Sewell Sowders, sister, Edna Jones and his mother, Minnie Sowders.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday and 10 A.M. Thursday until the hour of service at the Bloomfield First Christian Church.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at the Bloomfield First Christian Church with Pastor Scott Chastain officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In Lieu of Flowers memorial donations may be made to the Bloomfield First Christian Church.
