Donovan "Don" Ross Housel

DONOVAN “DON” ROSS HOUSEL, 89, of Jasonville, IN went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Brown County Health and Living Community.

He was born July 23, 1934 in Ellettsville, IN to Donovan Douglas “Dick” Housel and Sarah Kathleen “Kathy” (Taylor) Housel.

Don grew up in Ellettsville and joined the United States Air Force in 1954. While stationed in Portales, New Mexico he met the love of his life Lena Drucilla “Dru” Foster. They were married for 61 years before she went to her Heavenly home on May 23, 2020. They are now living eternally with their precious Savior Jesus.

Survivors include his children, Donovan Housel of Spencer, IN, Dawn Welch (Gary Murillo) of Jasonville, IN, Dara Carmichael (Tim) of Calvertville, IN; seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dru; his parents; brothers Charles Housel and Jim Housel; and son Chuck Housel.

Don worked many jobs throughout his life. He had experience as a mechanic on Fighter Aircraft in the USAF, selling cars at Tom O’Daniel Ford and being a security guard for Baggett and Boyle Transportation. He spent the longest duration of his working life at Otis Elevator in Bloomington, IN where he retired after 26 years. He enjoyed spending time with family, going to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, OH and going on long country drives in his truck, “the Greene County cruiser.” He had attended the Bloomfield Church of God and the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Bloomington.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Indiana. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Funeral Home, followed by Military Rites.
