Donovan “Don” Alkire, age 98, of Linton, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2021, at home. He was born in Clay City on January 2, 1923, the son of Hermit Deerwood & Mary Eleanor (Rea) Alkire.

He was a graduate of Patricksburg High School. He worked as a coal miner for 47 years and retired at the age of 65. He was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church and he enjoyed fishing, gardening and he used to build boats.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Donna (Larry) Pletch of Linton, grandchildren, D””Lee (Mike) Wentz, Josh Hubbell, Jordon (Emily) Pletch, great grandchildren, AnneVictoria, Jordan, Kaitlynne, Kaileigh, Hannah Aurora, Christian Donovan and Kaileb Joshua.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia Alkire and sister, Gwen Amerman.

Funeral service will be held at the Welch & Cornett Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 20, 2021 with his grandchildren officiating. Burial will follow at Burris Chapel.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 am until the time of service.
