Donna Rose McCammon

Donna Rose McCammon, age 85, of Linton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Glenburn Home in Linton. She was born in Sullivan County, Indiana on July 28, 1938, the daughter of Vane Houpt and Lois (Whitlock) Houpt.

Donna was a 1956 graduate from Carlisle High School. She earned her Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree from Indiana State University. She was an English teacher for over 30 years. She taught at Linton-Stockton High School, Sullivan High School where she served as Dean of Girls, and Indiana State University. She worked as an insurance agent for many years at West Agency in Spencer and Principal Financial Group of Indianapolis, retiring at age 83. She and her husband, Chet, also started Tropical Snow in Linton and Sullivan.

Donna was a member of Lincoln Christian Church where she taught the senior adult Sunday School Class for many years.

She loved teaching, being the senior class sponsor and class play sponsor, also taking making class trips in other countries. Donna was an approachable, caring person. She loved her family, friends, students, and church family.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Chester A. McCammon; a daughter, Kathy (Bill) Morrison of Terre Haute; a son, Brad (Luanne) McCammon of Medora; a brother, Dan (Becky) Tarrh of Granbury, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason (Kirsten) Morrison of Terre Haute, Jared (Allie) Morrison of Haubstadt, Kelsey (Jon) Hall of Freetown, and Carley McCammon of Medora; six great-grandchildren, Will Morrison, Zach Morrison, Reid Morrison, Ella Morrison, June Morrison, and Miles Hall; sisters-in-law, Jo Ann McCammon and Lisa McCammon; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Vane Houpt and Lois Tarrh; step-father, Ernest Tarrh; special aunt, Erma Rogers; sister, Sarah Burkeybyle; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elbert and Mabelle McCammon; and brothers-in-law, Leland McCammon and Norman McCammon.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 30, 2023 with Cliff Gano and Jeff Fulk officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carlisle.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of service.
