Daniel Wayne Wilson 54 of Owensburg passed on to Eternal life on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Daniel was born in Bloomington, Indiana the son of Lanny Wayne Wilson and Sandra Kay (Ashcraft) Wilson on April 25, 1969.

Daniel (Dan) graduated from Eastern Greene High School, Class of 1987. He soon enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard with the HHB 2-150 FA stationed in Bloomington, Indiana.

In the fall of 1990 he met the love of his life and his best friend on a blind date, Amy. On June 1,1991 they married and together they raised their sons and began an incredible life. Later they extended their family with a beautiful daughter that stole her Daddy’s heart.

Daniel loved being a father and coaching his boys in many sports and followed his daughter as she traveled performing as a dancer. Daniel continued his career as a United States soldier serving as security during the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia, a stint at the Newport Chemical Depot and his final tour in Kuwait and Mosul, Iraq in Operation Iraqi Freedom. While stationed in Mosul, Daniel and Amy worked with community members, students and staff at Eastern Greene Schools to send toys, sporting equipment, and school supplies to schools the soldiers had adopted. After 25 years as a United States soldier Daniel retired as SFC Daniel W. Wilson. After retiring from the military, Daniel and his son Justin began a rewarding and fulfilling new opportunity with the Monroe County Special Olympics. Daniel was a coach, a mentor, a friend to some of the most amazing friends where he earned the nickname, Lt. Dan. His passion and devotion earned him the award of Area 7 Coach of the Year.

As their children grew older and began their families, Daniel was awarded his most treasured title, GeePaw. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his grandbabies and could often be found traveling and attending numerous baseball games for their grandson Jason. He loved his 4 grandsons with all of his heart, but quickly turned into a puddle when their first and only granddaughter arrived.

After becoming empty nesters, Daniel and Amy began traveling and enjoyed numerous vacations creating life lasting memories. As they began planning a new future, they sold their family home and began camping and taking up residence to enjoy a simpler life in their camper. Their camping trips included their 5 beautiful grandbabies enjoying fishing, kayaking, tadpole hunting, smore making and cooking over a fire. Most importantly Daniel and Amy loved planning their next adventure.

Not only as a loving husband, father and GeePaw, Daniel was a very attentive and devoted son to his mother, Sandra. A recent widow, he stepped up to ensure his mother was cared for and doted over her. He was employed at NSWC Crane where he enjoyed and looked forward to his position where he wore many hats.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Amy (Nash) Wilson, children, sons, AJ (Alisha) Bowers, Justin Wilson and daughter Maddison Wilson (Brent) Fielder. The apples of his eye are his 5 grandchildren, Jason William, Rylon John, Nash Edward, Knox James and Emersyn Charlee. His cherished mother, Sandra, brother Mike (Brenda) Wilson, nephew Logan Wilson and special niece Evelyn Crowe and special nephews Liam and Jameson Crowe and cousins Marty and Julia Corwin.

Those gone before Daniel were his father Lanny Wayne Wilson, his most special sidekick Nan-Nan, Mary Ashcraft, his Pap, Daniel Ashcraft, his Granny Babe, Marie Wilson, Papaw Wayne, Wayne Wilson, aunt and uncle Ron and Lynn Corwin and Great Uncle Leroy Hartman.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 with services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, 20th, 2023 with visiting hours from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Jenkins Funeral Home, Bloomfield, Indiana with Kurt Moffitt officiating. Interment will follow at Kentucky Ridge Cemetery in Owensburg, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting any monetary contributions can be made to Monroe County Special Olympics of Indiana.
