Charlotte Louise Humerickhouse
/Charlotte Louise (Marshall) Humerickhouse, 90, passed away peacefully at Hearthstone Health Campus on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Charlotte came into this world on January 28th, 1930, in Odon, Indiana, the youngest of 10 children of H.O. (Odes) and Grace Marshall. She grew up in Odon and graduated from Odon High School in 1948.
Charlotte met the love of her life on a roller-skating date. Charlotte and Ed Humerickhouse were married August 26, 1951. After several career moves to Michigan, Missouri and Illinois, they settled in southern Indiana near family. Charlotte was widowed in 1967 when Ed died suddenly. She never remarried. After his death, she worked part time at Farmer’s Shoe Store in Bloomfield and became the first secretary at Bloomfield First Baptist Church before taking a job at Crane Navel Weapon Support Center, where she worked until retirement.
She had many interests. She loved playing the piano and organ and was instrumental in obtaining and directing hand bells for First Baptist Church. She was a talented seamstress and made extraordinary quilts, as well as teaching quilting classes. She enjoyed baking and cooking and sending cards to family and friends for birthdays and anniversaries, and she took up tennis at a late age and played into her 80’s. A strong believer, she was active at Bloomfield First Baptist Church throughout the years, and was also active in the Emmaus community and participated in Bible Study Fellowship.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Diana and Ed Curry, their children Andrea (Robert) White and Kurt Curry; son Charles, his children Angie (Dan) Frye, Todd (Stacey) Humerickhouse, Amie (Matt) Allen, and Abbie (Ben) Loving; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Richard Lepore, their children Kelsey Lepore and Emma Lepore; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Bill Burmeister, their children Kevin (Lynn) Burmeister and Taryn (Tom) Eklund and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved fiercely. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Odes and Grace Marshall and her husband Harold Edward Humerickhouse, and was the last relative in her generation in both hers and her husband’s families.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon, Indiana. A celebration of life will he held on May 23 at Bloomfield First Baptist Church, at 2:00 P.M.
