Charles Hirth

Charles W. Hirth, 90, of Owensburg passed away Wednesday December 19, 2018 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Born May 17, 1928 in Greene County, Indiana the son of Earle Maynard “Coonie” Hirth and Algie Elnora (Inman) Hirth.

Charles worked for Public Service doing surveying for twenty five years, and did right-a-ways before retiring in 1990, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a member of the Solsberry American Legion, he was the President of Hoosier Hills Boy Scouts, member of the Owensburg Fire Department, he was a boy scout leader for over 40 years, he had received the Silver Beaver award, a Kentucky Colonel, he was a founding member of the Eastern Heights Utilities still serving on the board as secretary and treasurer. He helped build the Owensburg museum and fire department. Charles and his wife Mary Anne were season ticket holders of the Shawnee Theater for 59 years.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 69 years, Mary Anne Hirth of Owensburg, two children, Kevin (Evelyn) Hirth of Bloomington and Robin (Gary) Reed of Solsberry, he has one granddaughter, Kacie (Jeremy) Myers of Bloomington, one step granddaughter, Jennifer (Billy) Schulz of Bloomfield and one sister, Betty Jo Inman of Hobbyville.

Charles was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sheri Lynne Hirth, one son Charles “Dane” Hirth and his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Saturday and 1 P.M. on Sunday until the hour of service at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Burial will follow with military graveside services at Owensburg Cemetery.

The family wishes any donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or The American Diabetes Association.
