Charles Gilbert Thompson
/Charles Gilbert Thompson, 84, of Odon, Indiana, and formerly lived at Switz City for 52 years, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1935 in Springville, Indiana to Rathmiel and Vangie (Neely) Thompson.
Charles married his loving wife of 65 years, Carolyn A. (Goad) Thompson on May 21, 1955.
Charles was a US Army Veteran. He served on the Switz City Town Board and many years on the Switz City Fire Department. Charles worked as a self-employed Brick Mason for several years. He loved living his last years at Parkview Village Christian Care in Odon and was blessed with many friendships there.
Family left to cherish the memory of Charles include: his wife, Carolyn Thompson; one daughter, Carla (Bruce) Porter of Switz City; grandson, Charles (Kimberly) Porter of Newberry; granddaughter, Jennifer (Luke) Hancock of Sandborn; great-grandchildren, Jeffrie Porter, Casey Porter, Ruby Hancock, Wesley Porter and Annie Hancock; one brother, Don Thompson; three sisters, Pauline Coursey, Martha Phillips and Jeana (Darrell) Bosell, all of Springville; sisters-in-law, Norma Coursey of Springville and Nova Thompson of Bedford.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Roy, Hobert, Delmar, Dallas and two brothers in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Pastor Vernon Thompson officiating. Charles will be laid to rest in Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Newberry, following military graveside rites presented by the Odon VFW Post #9627.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
Following CDC guidelines, face masks will be required and continue with social distancing please.
