Carol Joy (Powers) Russell

Carol Joy (Powers) Russell, loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother & Great Great Grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at her home. She was 89. Carol was a wonderful, unselfish, loving, beautiful, strong Christian Woman. The Lord and her family were always top priority and she instilled these values in her children & grandchildren. Carol is now enjoying the peace & tranquility of being with Jesus, her family & friends who have gone before her. Carol was born to Clarence & Fern (Bentley) Powers in Indianapolis Indiana on August 3, 1936.

Carol is survived by her loving children, Kevin/Tracey Russell, Monica Russell, Timothy/Lori Russell & Heather Brooke/Jimmy Rollins. Her grandchildren, Justin Russell, Seth Russell, Matt Russell, Alyssa Russell, Samantha Jackson, Joanna Sipes, Brickston Jerrells, Stone Russell, Krislyn Crowley, Hunter Rollins, Jacob Rollins & Amber Celeste Rollins. Her sisters, Mary/John Helm and Ethel/Steve Pfendler. Cousin, Jimmy/Judy Powers. Carol also was blessed with 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald K Russell; son, Shawn David Russell, brother & sister-in-law Byron & Nita Powers; & Breanna K (Booher) Russell, Justin’s wife.

Carol met the love of her life, Donald K Russell, on Halloween night 1958 by a chance encounter when visiting Linton with a coworker from the area.  This chance meeting led to their marriage on February 4, 1959.  Their marriage was full of laughter and love; even though the marriage ended at Don’s passing in April 2004, her love for him was everlasting.

Together they raised four children Kevin Brian Russell, Shawn David Russell, Timothy Michael Russell & Heather Brooke Russell in a loving Christian Home.  They attended Grace Gospel Church in Linton, they were faithful believers in their LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.

Carol worked her early years at Merchants Bank in Indianapolis.  Then once married she stayed home to raise her children.  Once her family was raised she worked at Small World, then Faye’s Closet here in Linton.  Carol Joy enjoyed working in the clothing business because Carol was a “Fashionista” herself; she loved helping others to find clothes, jewelry and talking with the women that came in. Once Carol retired from the fashion world, she still got up every day, make up, hair, beautiful clothing, & lots of jewelry. Carol loved her clothes and jewelry; she dressed every day like she was going to an important event.

Carol loved all her family and remained close with her sisters, Mary Helm, Ethel Pfendler and brother Byron Powers.  She spoke with them at least once every day & kept in touch with her beloved cousin Jimmy Powers; along with many nieces, nephews.  Carol loved cooking for her family, flower gardening, clothes, jewelry, shopping, and celebrating the successes and achievements of her family & friends.

While Carol will be laid beside her loving husband at Pleasant Grove Cemetery; we are grateful and assured that they have been reunited in Heaven with our LORD in Glory.

A private family visitation and funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, of Walton Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Gospel Church, through the funeral home.
