Bill J. Mason, age 73, of Linton, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family at 9:35 P.M. on Friday, September 18, 2020, at his home. He was born in Linton on January 29, 1947, the son of John & Delema (Sisk) Mason.

Bill served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was attached to special forces, Green Berets, and infantry. He retired from NSWC Crane Naval Base following 31 years, 1 month, and 1 day of service. Following his retirement, he worked at Owen Security as a guard at the coal mines, and was currently employed at Linton Walmart.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, birdhouses, and shooting guns.

Bill is survived by his wife whom he married on June 30, 1977, Earlena (Hiatt) Mason, his son, Kevin (Sally) Moore of Bloomington, three daughters, Lisa (Chris) Steiner of Bowling Green, Shelly (Neil) Bedwell of Coalmont, and Crystal Elkins of Linton, grandchildren, Dorinda (Stephen) Petho, Jake Moore, Kevin (Sarah) Moore, Joshua Bedwell, Tyler (Haley)Moore, Ian Steiner, Bailey Elkins, and Carson Weddle, a great-granddaughter, Rosalind Moore, three brothers, George Mason of Texas, Gary Mason of Linton, and Carl "Pug" Mason of Evansville, and sisters-in-law, Cathy Mason, Deb Mason, and Lori Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Johnnie, Dode, and Ronnie Mason, and an infant sister, Mary Jane Mason.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home on Thursday, September 24, 2020. Burial will follow at Dugger Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M., and after 10 A.M. on Thursday until the time of service.
