Betty Jo Dean, 97, of Bloomfield passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington, Indiana. Betty was born December 13, 1924, in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana the daughter of Jasper and Gertie (Haywood) Hasler.

Betty graduated from Scotland High School in 1942. She attended Secretary School in Bloomington and began working at Crane in 1943. She met and married Donald W. Dean in 1945 soon after he returned from WWII. They had 62 happy years together. She worked in NAPEC at Crane and retired in 1974. She then worked alongside her husband supporting and assisting him in his political career as a State Representative from 1978-1990.

She was a member of the Bloomfield First Baptist Church, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 196, the Order of Eastern Star #538, the State Assembly Woman’s Club, and the Greene County Republican Party serving as a Precinct Committee person for many years. She had a servant’s heart and worked tirelessly to help others in her community, including raising funds for the Bloomfield Baptist CLC kitchen by serving meals to the Rotary Club with a group of other extraordinary ladies, including her daughter, Nancy.

Surviving relatives include her son, David (Shannon) Dean, two grandsons, Adam Dean and Ethan Dean, a son-in-law, Mike Canty, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Donald W. Dean, one daughter, Nancy Ellen Canty, four brothers, five sisters, and her parents.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Monday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and from 12 pm until the hour of service on Tuesday at the Bloomfield First Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday at the Bloomfield First Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

The family ask any memorial donations in Betty's name be given to the Bloomfield School District or the Bloomfield First Baptist Church.
