Betty Jane Groomer, 80, of Newberry, passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at her residence. Born March 29, 1938 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Wilbur C. and Wilma M. (Clark) Hord. She married Loren Dale Groomer on June 15, 1962.

In 1939 at the age of 1, Betty was crowned little Miss Bloomfield.

She worked at RCA, Whites Grocery Store and as a cook at the Greene County Jail. She was a member of the Antioch Christian Church. Betty was an amazing Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt and friend. She enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, mushroom hunting, Indian Relic Hunting and picking wild raspberries and blackberries.

Betty was well known for her baking abilities. She loved to bake hot rolls, cakes, pies and cookies for her grandkids. Betty was very proud of her four daughters and all of her grandkids.

Surviving relatives include: her daughters, Reta Groomer (Kevin Fox), Stormy Wikle (David), Lesley Ingram (Andy) and Brooke Mullis (Billy); her grandchildren, Cheyenne Wikle, Shayla Wikle, Brittany Mullis, Bodey Mullis, Justin Ingram, Jaden Ingram and Jordan Ingram; her sisters, Deronda Howell, Jackie Hayes and Janice Picou.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Dale Groomer on December 29, 2009 and her parents.

There will be no public visitation or funeral services. Private graveside services will be conducted at Antioch cemetery at a later date. Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Antioch Christian Church.
