Bennie Joe Lewis

Bennie Joe Lewis, age 86, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 9:26 am on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at his home with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Linton on December 12, 1933, the son of  Isaac Newton "Tuffy" Lewis & Ida Alice (Frye) Lewis.

He married Connie Sue (Hair) Lewis in 1958, and they were married for 59 years until her passing in 2017.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he re-inlisted two times.  

Bennie worked for the Rubber Company in Indianapolis, and then for the Railroad for many years until retiring in 1991.  He then worked as a security guard at Hawthorne Mine for several years.  He served as a pentecostal minister for many years and loved serving the Lord.

He loved spending time and cooking for his family and grandchildren, along with raising a garden.  He enjoyed sports and going to the casino's to shoot craps and play Texas Holdem, or any kind of poker with his buddies.  He loved coaching little league, and went to a state championship coaching and playing Eagle's Lodge #578 softball.

Bennie is survived by his children, Bob (Penny) Lewis, David Lewis, Cindy Leadman, Mary Zygai, Anthony Lewis, Nathan Lewis, grandchildren, Kim Fisher, T.J. Miller, Jon Towell, Mike Lewis, Ryan Lewis, Nick (Marybeth) Goodman, Jarrod (Shakole) Lewis, Laken Lewis, Ryder Lewis, David Lewis Jr., and Annabelle Lewis, and great-grandchildren, Corby, Chayton, Johny, Raeghan, Bradlee, Mikey, Bryleigh, Braxton, Hailey, Kylee, Raylyn, Asher, Sophie, Noah, and Hunter, his BFF, Chayton Fisher, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Connie Sue (Hair) Lewis, a son, Michael Lewis, grandchildren, Gracie Belle and Matthew Lewis, and ten siblings.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 16, 2020, with Pastor Jeff Fulk officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of service.
