Barbara Lou Porter

Barbara Porter

Barbara Lou Porter, 87 of Bloomington, finally got to see Jesus! She passed away at 5:02 am, Saturday, April 4, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family. Born June 12, 1932 in Greene County she was the daughter of Charles and Velma Hamm.

She was a homemaker and a member of the 11th St. Church of Christ.

In her younger days you could have passed her on one of the old country roads. She would have been driving her 69 Impala too fast, with all of the windows down and too many kids in the backseat, all without seatbelts. No doubt there would have been an 8-track tape blaring, maybe some Elvis or Lorretta Lynn, but more often than not, Johnny Cash.

More recently you could find her sitting in her favorite chair watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and reruns of the Billy Graham Crusades on TBN for the “millionth” time

Until her last days, you couldn’t leave her home without her telling you to “Take Jesus with you when you go”.

Survivors include four sons, Eddie Porter and Terry Porter of Spencer; Tony Porter and Mike Porter, both of Solsberry; six daughters, Diana Porter of Bloomington; Brenda Porter and Connie Alsman of Bloomfield; Debbie Medina of Colorado Springs; Lisa Rambo of Bloomington and Tammie Wilkerson of Martinsville; approximately 40 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grand-children, two brothers, Don Hamm of Spencer, Joe Hamm Ellettsville and one sister Sharon Ludwig of Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emery “Buck” Porter, three sons, Emery Porter, Jimmy Porter and infant son Tommy; and one daughter, Donna Shaw; her parents and several brothers and sisters.

There will be a private graveside service at Newark Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday with her grandson, Curt Porter officiating.
