Wright explains his decision while Democratic Party Chairman plans caucus to fill the position

By Halea Franklin

After serving the City of Linton in the role of clerk-treasurer for six years, Jathan Wright announced his resignation Friday, effective Feb. 25, sending the county’s Democratic Party Chairman Jeff Sparks into the planning stage for a caucus to choose Wright’s replacement.

“When I was elected, I committed to several goals for the city, and together with an amazing staff, we have accomplished most of the goals that were set in my campaign. I am proud of the positive impact I have made upon the future viability of our city,” Wright wrote in his letter of resignation, which was shared on his professional Facebook page. “I will work with my staff and city personnel to come up with a transition plan that makes for the smoothest possible transfer of responsibility to the new Clerk-Treasurer.”

The decision to leave the office of clerk-treasurer was not an easy one for Wright.

“I was not looking for a change but was approached with a new opportunity. As a husband and father, I must ensure that I make the best decision for my family. I believe this decision will increase my job stability, benefit my family financially, while still allowing me to continue to be an active member in our community,” Wright wrote in his resignation letter.

With his resignation, Wright’s position will be open.

“We will caucus to replace him in the near future,” said Greene County Democrat Party Chairman Jeff Sparks.

More information about the caucus and the selection process will be posted when more details are available.

Shortly after his resignation was announced, Autumn Trace Senior Living Communities of Linton announced via a post on their Facebook post that Wright has been named their new executive director. As executive director, Wright will oversee all aspects of the 44-suite senior living community.

“We are confident in what Jathan will bring to this leadership position with his professional knowledge and experience, however it is his love of the city of Linton and his commitment to the people in this community that made him the standout choice for the executive director role,” said Jim Gillen, owner of Autumn Trace Senior Communities.

The public is invited to Autumn Trace on Saturday, March 5th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for a special welcome reception for Wright at Autumn Trace Senior Communities located at 1150 County Road 1000 W in Linton.
