Jeremy Lane Mitchell, 44, of Gosport, was arrested on Thursday, January 2, by Town Marshal James O’Malley of the Worthington Police Department.

Marshal O’Malley responded around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday when the Greene County Sheriff’s Department got a call about a suspicious person. The caller said a white man wearing khaki-colored pants, a black long-sleeved shirt and a hat was outside her home on South Lessie Street. She said her father-in-law told her the man had attempted to give him a glass pipe. She said she had two children inside the home with her and she was concerned.

In addition to O’Malley, Deputy Michael Coy and Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department also responded and Deputy Coy found a man matching the description about two blocks away from the woman’s home. O’Malley met the deputies on the scene at the intersection of Center and Meridian streets.

O’Malley said the man was identified as Jeremy Mitchell. Mitchell said he lived in Paragon and was in Worthington to visit family. When O’Malley asked him about a glass pipe, Mitchell allegedly admitted he did have a glass pipe in his pocket. When asked if he had recently ingested any illegal drugs, he allegedly admitted he had smoked meth the previous evening to help with physical pain.

Mitchell handed the glass pipe over and O’Malley reported it field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Mitchell was taken into custody and transported by Deputy Coy to the Greene County Jail.

Mitchell is facing preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Mitchell was being held without bond pending his appearance in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing.
