Worthington man charged with OVWI after his Blazer landed in a ditch
A Worthington man was in court Monday, charged with driving with a BAC of .184 when he flipped his Blazer and wound up in a ditch near Switz City before Christmas.
Jack Daniel Long, 34, Worthington, was arrested on Thursday, December 20, by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore after Elmore responded to a crash where Long was the driver. Long’s bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent allowed. He posted $400 cash to bond out of jail the same day and his case was not scheduled into court for an initial hearing until this past Monday.
Deputy Elmore reported the crash occurred around 2:35 p.m. that Thursday at County Road 100 North and State Road 67 in the Switz City area.
Worthington Town Marshal Randy Raney was actually the first officer to arrive on the scene and told Elmore rescue personnel said they could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver.
Elmore said Long was the driver of a white 2005 Chevrolet Trail Blazer that was flipped over into the westbound ditch of County Road 100 North, lying on the passenger side.
On the scene, Long passed one part of field sobriety testing but failed the others and tested at .184 on a portable breathalyzer. Long was transported to the sheriff’s department with the same results on field sobriety testing. According to Elmore, Long’s chemical test at 3:54 p.m. also showed he had an alcohol concentration equivalent to .184.
When Long appeared in Greene Superior Court on Monday, January 7, for his initial hearing, Defense Attorney Tim Shonk was appointed to represent him as a public defender and Long was charged with:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor,
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor, and
Operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
