Worthington man accused of criminal trespassing
A criminal case was filed against a Worthington man who had been trespassed from another man’s property in the same neighborhood after he walked onto the property to pick up a dog toy.
Colbert Lee Marcum III, 41, Worthington, was arrested by Officer David Sparks of the Worthington Police Department yesterday afternoon, Thursday, March 30, on a warrant for his arrest that was issued on March 27 when Marcum failed to appear for his initial hearing on a misdemeanor charge.
Marcum is accused of criminal trespassing, a Class A misdemeanor. A case was filed against him on February 23 following an incident that occurred on February 15 that was investigated by Officer Sparks. The court issued a summons ordering Marcum to appear in court on March 27. The summons was served via US mail and it returned to the court with signature confirmation, signed by C Marcum.
On the day of the initial hearing, Marcum was a no-show so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Back on Thursday, February 16, Officer Sparks was dispatched to a location on South Dayton Street in Worthington after a resident called in and said he had camera footage showing Marcum on his property. The resident explained that Marcum was not supposed to be on his property and had been trespassed in mid-September.
When Officer Sparks reviewed the footage, he recognized Marcum, who also resides on South Dayton. Officer Sparks reported Marcum did walk on the man’s property to pick up a dog toy, then turned to the camera, threw his arms up then flipped the camera off. He then returned to his own residence.
Marcum was booked into the Greene County Jail yesterday at 2:43 p.m. with bond set at $5000 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. His initial hearing will be rescheduled.
