Woman facing reckless driving charge for speeding on I-69

Last Monday, when a state trooper stopped a driver traveling on I-69, she reportedly said she was trying to get somewhere fast. The trooper said she was going 102 mph and handed her a summons to appear in court.

Amber Elizabeth Porter, 24, of Bloomington, was operating a silver Chrysler Sebring on I-69 on Monday, March 18.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper John Yung was on duty near the 88 mile marker around 8:50 a.m. when he saw the Chrysler traveling in the left lane at what appeared to be a high speed in excess of the 70 mph limit.

Yung reported he clocked the vehicle’s speed at 102 mph and he initiated a traffic stop.

Porter was identified as the driver though she said her driver’s license was at home. She allegedly told the trooper she was trying to get somewhere fast.

When Yung checked records, they revealed Porter’s driver’s license was suspended with four indefinite suspensions, the last one on March 12.

Porter got a warning for driving while suspended but a summons for reckless driving.

A criminal case was filed against Porter this week in Greene Superior Court and a summons has been issued ordering her to appear in court on April 18 to face a charge of reckless driving at unreasonable high or low speed that endangers safety, a Class C misdemeanor.
