Deputies patiently checked out numerous tales told by a woman exhibiting odd behavior earlier this month. Finally, she was taken into custody and booked into jail. Two weeks later, she could bond out for $100 cash, but she’s still in jail.

Sherrie Margaret Gragg, 53, Solsberry, was arrested late Tuesday afternoon, February 11, by Deputy Cameron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and she’s still in jail. Her bond was set at $1,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. It would take $100 cash to bond out but as of today, Tuesday afternoon, February 25, she has not posted bond.

On the afternoon of her arrest, Deputy Frye was dispatched, along with GCSD Deputy David Elmore, to a residence on Legion Road in the Solsberry area after Gragg called in.

When they arrived, Gragg was gone but they talked to the homeowner and learned she had been letting Gragg stay there. However, the homeowner told them about Gragg’s odd behavior, said she was “looney” and had been talking to the walls.

When Gragg earlier called in to dispatch, the homeowner was not yet home but Gragg wanted to report there was carbon monoxide poisoning in the house from cooking meth. Dispatch advised Gragg was rambling and hard to understand.

When the homeowner’s children arrived home, they called their mother and told her about Gragg’s behavior. By the time the homeowner got there, Gragg had left.

When Deputy Frye asked if he could do a welfare check on the children, the homeowner agreed and the deputy reported when he entered the home, he found no signs of neglect, abuse or drug use. He talked to three children who said they were fine but they also told him about Gragg’s behavior that they had observed, which included Gragg talking to empty corners.

When Deputy Elmore located Gragg near the road, he said she approached him saying she does not do drugs and never did, but she said she had carbon monoxide poisoning. She also made several other allegations that did not turn out to be true.

When the homeowner took a closer look through her house, she said Gragg had gone through her room and ransacked it. The only thing she noticed that was missing was a $2 bill. When a deputy asked Gragg about the $2 bill, Gragg said she never took the money and said he could check her pockets. He found a $2 bill. Gragg said somebody had to have planted it there while she was asleep.

Gragg also claimed someone had slipped something in her coffee and she wanted the deputies to test her coffee mug for the presence of methamphetamine. And so they did. Deputy Elmore reported it did not test positive for meth.

Gragg was transported to the Greene County Jail.

She appeared in Greene Superior Court last Tuesday, February 18, and was formally charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

A public defender has been appointed to represent Gragg.
