Woman charged with felony after bloody attack with a screwdriver
Striking another person in the head with a screwdriver resulted in felony battery resulting in moderate bodily injury charges for an 18-year-old Lyons woman.
Shania Chantelle Davis was arrested July 7 by Deputy Kelly Hutchens of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department following an incident that resulted in a victim having eight staples placed in his head and two in his arm. The staples were used to mend lacerations caused by damage from being struck with a screwdriver.
Davis told Hutchens and Deputy Michael Coy that when she arrived at a Lyons residence, the victim began screaming at her, saying that he was going to hit her. She said he put her in a choke hold and would not let go, so she reached for something to hit him. She further stated he hit her head off the living room floor, but she got away and made it into the kitchen. She said she found a screwdriver in a kitchen drawer. She said she hit him with the end of the tool, then stabbed him with the “twirly part”. She said she hit him with the handle of the tool on the top of his head and stabbed him near his arm but she wasn’t sure where she made contact.
The victim denied putting his hands on Davis. He said when she arrived at the residence, she spit in his face and stabbed him in the head with the screwdriver, even though he ducked, she still struck his head with the tool.
A female witness stated Davis came out of a bedroom with blood on her face. The witness said she told the victim to go to the bathroom so she could assess his wounds. While in the bathroom, the victim said Davis used a black-handled knife to stab the door, attempting to reach the victim. As the victim was preparing to leave the residence, the witness said Davis kicked him in the groin area.
A male witness stated he was in the house while Davis and the victim were arguing. He said the victim tried to choke Davis, but he didn’t see anything physical occur. He said he then saw Davis throw a screwdriver or pliers at the victim. He said he did not see where it hit the victim but believed it hit him in the head. According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Hutchens, drops of blood and a blood-soaked towel were found in the residence.
The victim claimed the male witness was not present during the incident. He said he was at a creek fishing when the altercation occurred.
Davis has been charged with Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury, a Level 6 Felony.
Her bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. She posted $400 and was released later the same day.
