Woman appears in court in three different cases, all involving drug possession

When a woman with two warrants out for her arrest was taken into custody last Friday evening, officers reported finding meth and other drugs in her bag and a new case was filed against her. Today she appeared in court in three different criminal cases, all involving drug possession.

Stephanie Jo Hawkins, 33, is from Jasonville according to court records, but during a recent traffic stop, she told a state police trooper her home was in Worthington. She was arrested last Friday, October 12, at a residence in Bloomfield.

Hawkins was booked in to jail by Bloomfield Deputy Marshal Jordan Allor who served two warrants on Hawkins, assisted by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy David Elmore and Det. Shawn Cullison.

One warrant was issued in a case that dates back to January when Hawkins was charged with possession of methamphetamine - a Level 6 felony, driving while suspended, a knowing violation with a prior conviction - a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia - a Class C misdemeanor. This case is still pending.

The second warrant was issued as a result of a traffic incident that occurred on Tuesday, September 4. A vehicle that appeared to be trying to avoid the attention of a state police trooper got his attention anyway and he initiated a traffic stop. All three occupants did not have valid driver’s licenses. The driver got a summons then all three were free to go from the scene. But drugs were found after the vehicle was towed and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Hawkins who was a passenger.

In the second case, she’s now been charged with four felonies: Possession of methamphetamine – a Level 6 felony, unlawful possession of a syringe – a Level 6 felony, and two counts of unlawful possession of a legend drug – both are Level 6 felonies.

After Hawkins was in custody on the two warrants, with permission from a Bloomfield resident where Hawkins was found, an officer searched a bag Hawkins had left behind. Allor reported they found smoking devices with residue, pills that were identified as controlled substances, and a cut straw with a white powdery residue that field tested positive as methamphetamine.

The third case was filed. In this latest one, she’s been charged with possession of methamphetamine - a Level 6 felony, possession of a controlled substance - a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia - a Class C misdemeanor.
