Woman accused of throwing tricycle through a man’s front window

A 26-year-old woman, formerly of Jasonville who may now live in Lyons, is being summoned into court on preliminary charges of battery and criminal mischief. She allegedly slapped, punched and hit a man then threw a tricycle through the front window of his home.

Haylee B. Keller is facing a charge of criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor, and battery, also a Class B misdemeanor.

The incident, which occurred in Jasonville sometime between midnight and 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, was investigated by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Zachary Goad.

Deputy Goad said a call had been received by dispatch around 1:25 a.m. from a man who said Keller had just broken his window then left the area in a blue 2011 Honda possibly headed toward Lyons where she now lived, or toward Bloomington where she worked.

Deputy Goad, GCSD Deputy Davis Aerne and Lyons Officer Brock Garrison immediately attempted to locate Keller and the vehicle in the Switz City and Lyons areas but were unsuccessful.

When Goad arrived at the man’s home in Jasonville, he said he saw tire tracks in the grass near the house where Keller allegedly drove through the yard.

The resident, who had called in the report, said his soon-to-be ex-wife, Keller, had arrived at his house, gone to his front door, started arguing with him, then started hitting him. He said she slapped him in the face, punched him in the ear and struck him on the top of his head with her cell phone.

The man said before she left, she picked up a child’s tricycle and threw it at a front window.

Goad reported the window was broken with glass on the floor inside of the home and the tricycle was still hanging in the front window. He took photographs.

He also took photographs of text messages Keller had sent to the man’s cell phone. It appeared multiple text messages were sent as she was on the way to his house, continuing to update him on how close she was to his house. At the time she was sending them, he was unaware of the messages.

The language in the messages allegedly sent from Keller’s phone is not suitable to include in this story. To paraphrase the messages, they were warnings that she was on the way to flip out on him, beat him up and kick his window out.

Goad also spoke to another individual who was present in the home during this incident. He said she told him she did not see the altercation but she heard it, and she did see Keller break the window.

Goad reported he attempted to contact Keller numerous times on her cell phone but she did not answer and he was unable to leave a message because the voice message system was not set up.

Following the investigation, charges were filed and on Wednesday, June 6, a summons was issued ordering Keller to appear for an initial hearing in Greene Superior Court on Monday, July 2 at 1 p.m.
