Woman accused of shoplifting from Jasonville store
Scanning some items while failing to scan all items at the self-check-out at the Jasonville Dollar General Store resulted in a warrant for the arrest of a 30-year-old Vincennes woman.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Amanda Michelle Ford on a charge of theft with a prior conviction of theft or conversion on April 21. Ford is accused of taking $90.39 worth of items from Dollar General. However, she was arrested on April 17 by Jasonville Police Department Officer Brian Pilant on a warrant from a 2022 case of theft of a firearm.
Pilant received a call on April 15 regarding Ford and another female utilizing the self check out, failing to scan all items. Pilant spoke to the store manager and was able to access camera footage. When watching the security footage, Pilant saw two females at the checkout. He wrote in the probable cause affidavit that they would set items down and scan a tag from another item, then they would bag all the items and put them in a cart without scanning all items.
Pilant observed Ford with items in both hands; however, she only scanned items from one hand and put all items in a bag and into her cart.
Pilant, according to the probable cause affidavit, located Ford and the other female later and both admitted they took items without paying for them.
The store manager provided Officer Pilant with a receipt of items paid for as well as items not paid for. The manager advised the two women stole 14 items totaling $90.39.
Items taken in addition to their price included:
Easter basket — $13.00
Two buckets of slime — $6.00 each
Two Theraflu — $7.95 each
