A Jasonville man was arrested Monday night after a neighbor said he threatened to slit his throat. Two witnesses confirmed the neighbor’s story.

Bryan Eugene Coffman, 32, Jasonville, was arrested by Sgt. Brian Pilant of the Jasonville Police Department on Monday night, April 19.

Sgt. Pilant responded to an area on Sycamore Street in Jasonville about someone yelling and cussing at another person. When he arrived, he saw Coffman running back into his residence. A neighbor standing in the road said Coffman came outside, got in his face and was yelling and cussing at him.

When Sgt. Pilant got closer to Coffman’s residence, he could hear Coffman yelling on the phone to dispatch. Coffman answered the officer’s knock on the door, told him to come in then started yelling and cussing at the officer in a very loud voice. Coffman was warned about a possible charge of disorderly conduct.

When Sgt. Pilant left the residence and was standing outside, Coffman allegedly came back outside and started in again. He was again told to quiet down but Coffman refused to comply.

Also outside, Sgt. Pilant talked to the neighbor again and the neighbor said when Coffman was yelling at him earlier, Coffman told the neighbor he was going to slit his throat. In later interviews, two other individuals said they heard Coffman tell the neighbor he was going to slit his throat.

Coffman was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail at 9:47 p.m. His bond was set at $4,500 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Coffman has since posted $450 and been released.

He is facing preliminary charges of intimidation – threat is to commit a forcible felony, a Level 6 felony, and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.

Coffman is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing next Monday afternoon, April 26.
