With officers at the front door, Bloomfield man runs out the back

When officers knocked on the front door of a home in Bloomfield to arrest a man wanted on a warrant, he ran out the back door, where a sheriff’s deputy was waiting for him.

Dustin Shayne Perry

Dustin Shayne Perry, 28, Bloomfield, was arrested by Deputy Alan Jackson of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Thursday after Perry was apprehended by Deputy Michael Stanley.

Perry was wanted on a warrant issued out of Knox County for failure to appear in court on a felony charge of resisting law enforcement. According to court records, Perry’s home address is located on North Washington Street in Bloomfield, but he was taken into custody at a residence located on Nancy Avenue in Bloomfield.

Deputy Jackson, the investigating officer, said around 5:30 p.m. last Thursday, dispatch received a call from a concerned citizen with a tip that Perry was at the Nancy Street residence.

Deputy Jackson was dispatched along with Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department. When they knocked on the door, they talked to two women and told one of them to ask Perry to come outside. She refused.

Other officers had also responded to the scene, positioning on the other side of the residence.

Deputy Jackson reported that while he was still standing at the front door, he heard the officers on the other side of the residence telling someone to get down on the ground. When Deputy Jackson got to the other side, he saw that Perry had tried to flee out the back door but was apprehended by GCSD Deputy Michael Stanley.

Prior to transport, when Perry was checked for weapons, officers found a clear plastic ziplock bag containing a crystal substance and a plastic straw with a powder residue in one of Perry’s pockets. These items field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

On top of the warrant from Knox County, Perry is now facing preliminary charges in Greene County of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Perry was booked into the Greene County Jail at 6:30 p.m. He’s being held without bond pending his initial hearing in Greene Superior Court.
