Warrant issued for teen accused of stealing a rifle after threatening to kill people

When a father discovered his rifle and a loaded magazine were both missing from his home in Greene County, he called GCSD. He suspected his teen son, who lived in Loogootee, who had recently threatened to kill a family member, a police officer and a nurse. The deputy who investigated the situation reported the suspect’s whereabouts are unknown.

A warrant was issued earlier today for the arrest of Logan Plano, age 18, Loogootee, as a result of an investigation by Deputy Camron Frye of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Logan Plano’s current location is unknown at the time this story is posted, but Plano had been living with his mother in Loogootee. Plano’s father lives in Greene County.

Back on December 12, Plano’s father contacted the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and reported a firearm was missing from his house and he had reason to believe Plano had taken it.

Deputy Frye was dispatched and talked to the father who said he had not talked to Plano in months but while he was at work that day, Plano came to his home and talked to his daughter, a juvenile, who saw Plano around 10:15 that morning while their father was at work. The juvenile said Plano came into her room, showed her his new shoes and said he was going to pick up his pellet gun, which was stored beside the father’s gun case/safe. She said she heard Plano go down to where the father’s gun safe was located, come back up, then leave the house.

The father learned about Plano’s visit when he got home after work and when he checked, he saw the pellet gun was still there but his rifle was gone. The father said it was a black Colt M4 rifle that was missing along with a loaded 30-round magazine. He could not provide a serial number but said he’d purchased the rifle about 10 years ago at Herndon’s Guns in Bloomfield, which has been closed for a few years.

The father attempted to contact Plano but didn’t get a response. The father asked Plano to come back over that night and said Plano could leave the weapon in the father’s truck. Plano did not show up. The father also contacted Plano’s mother who was worried because she allegedly said Plano had recently threatened her.

According to Deputy Frye, the father also said he had become aware that Plano had apparently tried to buy a gun in Linton recently. And that Plano had threatened to shoot not just his mother but some other people as well.

After talking to Plano’s father, Deputy Frye talked to Plano’s mother and reported that she said Plano is facing charges in Martin County for threatening to kill her, kill a Loogootee police officer and also a nurse at Jasper Memorial Hospital. She said he threatened to use an M4 rifle, which is what’s missing from the father’s home.

According to Deputy Frye’s report, Plano often hangs out in Loogootee and was known to drive a red 2005 Dodge truck with a broken slider window and red lettering on the tires. Plano has not responded to attempts to contact him and his location is unknown.

Plano is wanted on a charge of theft where the value of the property is between $750 and $50,000, a Level 6 felony.
