Gerald Leroy Thompson, Jr., 29, Dugger, is wanted on a warrant issued today, Thursday, September 17, on a preliminary charge of failure to return to lawful detention, a Level 6 felony.
According to Field Officer Andrew Johnson of Greene County Community Corrections, Thompson was sentenced in Greene Superior Court on June 18 for domestic battery, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to two years in the Greene County Jail or in the Indiana Department of Correction but the court allowed him to serve his time on work release at Greene County Community Corrections as long as he followed the rules.
Thompson was employed at Tieman Tire in Bloomington and he left the work release center at 7 a.m. Monday. He was due to return before 6:30 p.m. Thompson was wearing a GPS tracking device and was to travel directly to his workplace and back to the work release center without making any stops or side trips unless authorized.
Officer Johnson reported getting an alert at 6:11 p.m. that Thompson’s tracking device had been tampered with and likely removed. Officer Johnson responded immediately to the last GPS coordinates reported by the device and located the GPS unit in a parking area in front of the Greene County Chapel located on County Line Road in eastern Greene County.
Officer Johnson said Thompson did not return to the work release center at 6:30 p.m. as expected and his whereabouts are unknown.
This is the second warrant issued this week for someone who ditched their ankle bracelet and walked away from the work release program. The other warrant was issued yesterday, Wednesday, September 16, for Joshua Lee Corlett, 31, Solsberry, who left his workplace on Monday and did not return to the work release center.
