Jeramy Jason Walls, 41, Linton, is wanted on a warrant for his arrest that was issued earlier today, Monday, February 1.

Walls is a convicted sex offender who is classified as a sexually violent predator. He is required to register with Indiana’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry for life.

Walls is accused of moving and not notifying the Greene County Registrar of his new address and Detective Shawn Cullison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating.

According to Det. Cullison, on Wednesday, January 20, GCSD Deputy Bruce Porter was in Linton assisting officers on an unrelated call when he talked to someone at the last address Walls registered. Deputy Porter regularly assists Greene County Registrar Kelly Portteus with verifying addresses of offenders on the list, and he was familiar with Walls, so he asked about him while he was there.

Deputy Porter talked to the property owner who said Walls didn’t live there anymore and when he talked to the current resident, the resident said he’d lived there for two months and he didn’t know Walls.

Deputy Porter then checked other locations to see if he could locate Walls, with no success.

But last Friday, January 22, Walls went into the sheriff’s department to change his address as required. When Det. Cullison talked to Walls, Walls allegedly admitted he had moved sometime after Thanksgiving but before Christmas. Walls said he didn’t know why he didn’t change his address with the registrar.

According to Det. Cullison, Walls was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender, a Level 5 felony, in April of 2018 and was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender, a Level 6 felony, in October of 2017. He was also convicted of failure to register as a sex offender in Illinois in March of 2017.

According to the Indiana Department of Corrections, Walls was convicted of child molesting, a Class B felony, in April of 2002, sentenced to four years and released in October of 2003. DOC records show he was also convicted of child molesting, a Class B felony, in March of 2006, sentenced to three years and released in December of 2008. He served time in DOC later after the conviction of failure to register in 2018. In that case, he was sentenced to one year and was released in late November of 2018.

Following Det. Cullison’s investigation, a criminal case was filed against Walls earlier today and the warrant issued.

Walls is now facing a new preliminary charge of failure to register as a sex or violent offender, with a prior conviction, a Level 5 felony.
