Warrant issued for convicted sex offender for failure to register, whereabouts unknown

A warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of a convicted sex offender accused of failing to update his information on the state’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry. Deputies have made numerous attempts to locate without success. Whereabouts unknown.

Daniel Wayne Clark

Daniel Wayne Clark, 37, Linton, is a convicted sex offender who is required to register on the state’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry and notify the registrar of all changes of address.

Following an investigation led by Det. Shawn Cullison of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, assisted by numerous other deputies, Clark is accused of failing to register.

Back in September, after Greene County Registrar Kelly Portteus received some information about Clark reportedly being at a school in Sullivan County, she asked Det. Cullison to verify Clark’s home address. He was last registered as residing at 1561 North County Road 1300 West, Linton. In late September, Det. Cullison attempted to locate Clark at that location, with no success. He left a card with a request for Clark to call, but Det. Cullison didn’t get a call.

In early October, Det. Cullison visited the property again and talked to a family member of Clark who said Clark didn’t live there but had been staying in a tent behind the house.

Numerous other attempts were made in October to locate or contact Clark, without success. Deputy Bruce Porter, Det. David Elmore, Deputy Logan Milligan and Deputy Sgt. Jordan Allor all made trips to the property trying to find Clark. The checks were made at various hours of the day, and sometimes several in a day, all without success.

Yesterday, Tuesday, November 9, Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw filed a criminal case against Clark in Greene Circuit Court on a charge of failure to register as a sex or violent offender, with a prior conviction. It’s a Level 5 felony.

A warrant was issued for Clark’s arrest yesterday.

According to the Indiana Department of Corrections, in 2007, Clark was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony, and was sentenced to three years in prison. He was released in 2008. Then in 2012, he was sentenced to sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony, and sentenced to three years and six months. He was released in 2015. In 2015, he was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender, a Level 5 felony, and sentenced to one year and six months. He was released in 2016. In September of 2018, a portion of a suspended sentence was revoked and he was ordered to serve his time in the Greene County Jail. He was released in November of 2018.

He is required to register until March of 2022.

According to Det. Cullison, Clark’s whereabouts are unknown.

Clark is a white male, 37 years old, 6’1” and 220 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes with a number of tattoos that are described in his listing in the online Sex and Violent Offender Registry.
