Walker to replace Wright as City of Linton Clerk-Treasurer

By Halea Franklin

During a caucus held Monday evening, Claudia Walker was selected to fulfill the role of City of Linton Clerk-Treasurer, a position that was vacated last month when Jathan Wright resigned to take another opportunity within the county.

When Wright left his position at the city for a new role at Autumn Trace Senior Communities of Linton, Walker was appointed to deputy clerk-treasurer in order to handle duties related to the office until a replacement was selected during the caucus process.

Greene County Democrat Party Chairman Jeff Sparks said the caucus was held with the five Stockton Township precinct committeemen representing the City of Linton. Since Wright, a Democrat, was elected to the position, Sparks said, the Democrat precinct committeemen were charged with selecting a replacement.

“I feel with my previous experience as the controller for the city and as treasurer for Greene-Sullivan Special Education Cooperative, I can be an asset as clerk-treasurer,” Walker said.

Aside from experience, serving the community is a family tradition for Walker. Her mother, Donna Meurer, served as Greene County Assessor and her aunt, the late Shelby Meurer, served as Greene County Treasurer.

She will serve the remainder of Wright’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2023.

“As a life-long resident, it is an honor to serve the citizens of Linton,” Walker said.
