A Linton man is facing a charge of auto theft for allegedly taking his girlfriend’s Charger out-of-county without permission last week. The car and the suspect were located in Anderson. Yesterday he was transported back to Greene County.

Corey Durand Cooley, 42, Linton, was booked in to the Greene County Jail around 3 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, June 20. He was transported in from Madison County by Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Terry Wade.

The incident occurred on last Thursday, June 13.

Linton Police Officer Joe Riley, the investigating officer, was dispatched late that night after LPD got a call from a woman who said her boyfriend, identified as Cooley, had taken her young son and her car, without permission, and had gone to Anderson.

When Officer Riley talked to the woman, she said Cooley had dropped her off for work around 9 a.m., then was supposed to drop her son off at the home of a family member, but he did not. She said she had no knowledge he was going to leave town and go to Anderson.

The woman said Cooley was supposed to pick her up from work but he never showed up. She got a ride home then discovered Cooley was gone and she could not find her son.

The woman’s car, a silver 2014 Dodge Charger, was entered into the IDACS system as a stolen vehicle.

Officer Riley reported Cooley was also in possession of the woman’s cell phone and she was able to use another cell phone to track her own phone and determine the location.

LPD dispatch then got into communication with the Anderson Police Department and gave them the location of the stolen vehicle.

In less than one hour after the woman reported, Anderson police had located the vehicle. It was unoccupied. It was impounded.

The phone was then tracked to a different area in Anderson where officers located Cooley and found out where the woman’s son had been dropped off in Anderson.

Anderson officers located the son who was reunited with his mother.

Cooley was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail where he was held on a preliminary charge of auto theft.

Now that Cooley is back in Greene County, he will be charged with auto theft, a Level 6 felony.

His bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He posted $400 cash and was released later the same day as when he arrived at the Greene County Jail.
