Update: Friday night crash claimed life of Springville man, injured three others including a child

A head-on crash in eastern Greene County Friday night claimed the life of Jeremiah Murphy, 37, Springville, and sent three others to the hospital.

Murphy was driving a 2000 Mercury Mystique when the crash occurred at approximately 9:23 p.m. Friday, May 18, on State Road 45 at Carmichael Road.

According to information released early Sunday morning from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the head-on collision involved two vehicles that were traveling in opposite directions.

The driver of the other vehicle, Raul Ramirez, 51, Springville, was operating a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora.

Ramirez sustained injuries along with two passengers in Murphy’s vehicle, Kayla Faubion, 31, and one child.

This crash is still under investigation and few details have been released, but GCSD reported Ramirez, Faubion and the child were transported by ambulances to IU Health hospital in Bloomington. Information on the extent of their injuries and their status has not been released.

Investigating officers include Deputy Alan Jackson, Deputy David Elmore and Detective Shawn Cullison, all from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, and Trooper Eric Russell from the Indiana State Police.

In addition to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, first responders, officers and investigators on the scene included personnel from the Indiana State Police, Greene County Ambulance Service, IU Health Bloomington Ambulance Service, and the Center Fire Department.
