Two men arrested in Linton during weekend traffic stop

Two men were jailed following a traffic stop in Linton over the weekend. The officer said one was wanted on a warrant and the other was in possession of meth and paraphernalia.

Brandon Lee Miller

Alex Leroy Butler, 33, Washington, Ind., and Brandon Lee Miller, 33, Sullivan, were arrested by Officer Nick Yingling of the Linton Police Department early Sunday, June 28.

Very early that Sunday morning, Officer Yingling was on patrol and conducted a traffic stop on a white Dodge Avenger just west of County Road 1600 West.

Butler was the driver with two passengers in the vehicle, including Miller.

Butler provided the officer with a state identification card but he did not have a valid driver’s license and neither did the two passengers.

In Miller’s case, Officer Yingling determined Miller was wanted on a warrant issued in Greene County for failure to appear in a case involving misdemeanor operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license.

Miller was taken into custody on the warrant and Officer Yingling requested a tow truck for the vehicle since nobody had a driver’s license.

After other officers arrived on scene to assist, during the required inventory of the vehicle prior to towing, officers reported finding smoking and snorting devices with white powder in both that field-tested positive as methamphetamine. Butler allegedly admitted the items belonged to him.

Butler was then taken into custody as well.

Both were booked into the Greene County Jail 1:30-2:30 a.m.

Miller’s bond was set at $5,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. As of Wednesday night, he had not yet posted bond and remained in jail.

Butler was held without bond pending court appearance. During an initial hearing yesterday, Tuesday, June 30, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. His bond was set at $8,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. He has since posted $800 and been released.
