A female driver and a male passenger were both found to be in possession of meth during a traffic stop last weekend. After the amount of their bond was set in court this week, she bonded out but he’s still in jail.

Amanda Kristine May

Jeffery Marshall Smith

Amanda Kristine May, 37, Coalmont, and Jeffery Marshall Smith, 50, Linton, were arrested by Officer Janzen Franklin of the Linton Police Department early Sunday, June 20.

Amanda May was the driver of a 2004 Ford Ranger that was stopped by Officer Franklin for driving left of center. Jeffery Marshall was a passenger.

LPD Officer Joe Riley assisted on the scene and when his K9 partner, Kona, sniffed around the vehicle, Kona alerted to the presence of a controlled substance.

Officer Franklin reported that during a search of the vehicle, he located an orange bag in the middle of the truck that contained a dollar bill with residue that field-tested positive as methamphetamine, a silver metal icing tip that contained a white residue and a blue mirror with a white residue. Officer Riley reported he found a white oval pill identified as a Schedule 2 controlled substance.

After the search, May allegedly said the bag belonged to Smith but she admitted she had items in her bra and she handed over a glass smoking device with white residue and three small bags containing a white crystal substance that May said was methamphetamine. The approximate weight of the three bags was 5.8 grams.

Officer Franklin transported May to the Greene County Jail.

LPD Officer Bobby Pierce transported Smith to the Greene County Jail and later reported that on the way, Smith admitted he had methamphetamine in his pants. After they arrived at the jail, Smith handed over a small bag containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine.

May was booked in at 1:38 a.m. and Smith was booked in at 1:26 a.m. Both were initially held without bond pending court appearance.

Both of them appeared in Greene Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon via two-way video between the jail and the courtroom.

May has been charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Her bond was set at $20,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. She has since posted $2,000 and been released from jail.

Smith has been charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine a Level 6 felony.

His bond was set at $10,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed but as of late Friday afternoon, he had not yet posted bond and was still in jail.
