Two arrested for drugs after rolling through a stop sign at a railroad crossing

Failure to stop at a stop sign at a railroad crossing in the Jasonville area led to a traffic stop and the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle led to a search. Deputies found several items that field-tested positive as methamphetamine and two people were arrested.

Chandra Kay Day, 44, Shelburn, and Ryan Dennis Keller, 35, Shelburn, were arrested by Deputy Sgt. Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department last Saturday night, February 19.

Around 7:44 p.m. last Saturday, Sgt. Allor and GCSD Deputy Anthony Nelson were in a patrol vehicle sitting at the Indiana Railroad Hiawatha rail yard on North County Road 1380 West in Jasonville watching for stop sign violations at the rail crossing.

When a silver Toyota Sienna disregarded the stop sign at the railroad tracks, a traffic stop was initiated near CR 1380 West and CR 860 North.

Ryan Keller was the driver who admitted he rolled through the stop. His driver’s license was suspended but he said he didn’t know. Chandra Day was a passenger who also did not have a valid driver’s license. Another passenger, who was later released from the scene, also did not have a valid driver’s license.

Sgt. Allor reported that as he was talking to the driver, he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked if someone had smoked marijuana in the vehicle, Keller allegedly said, “It’s possible.” When asked if Day had marijuana with her, he said, “It’s possible.” But Day said there was no marijuana in the vehicle and said she didn’t have any on her but she allegedly admitted she had smoked marijuana inside the vehicle earlier in the day.

With Officer Dustin Cain of the Jasonville Police Department also assisting on the scene, Sgt. Allor reported that when the vehicle was searched, he found a black cylinder container with a green lid marked “Smoke Zilla” on the ground next to the vehicle on the passenger side. Inside the container, the deputy found a mini Tupperware container with a burnt hand-rolled cigarette, several plastic corner bags and a cut straw that later field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Deputy Nelson reported finding a blue and purple bag with a water bong style smoking device that later field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. He also found two black digital scales with white residue, a zip bag with white residue and a silver metal homemade smoking device. Inside a pink bag, he found multiple plastic bags, cut straws with white residue and another smoking device that also field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Both Day and Keller were transported to the Greene County Jail where they were booked in between 10-10:30 p.m. Both were being held without bond pending their appearances in court for initial hearings earlier today.

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and

Day has been charged with:

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and
