Tuesday pursuit involving several agencies ends with arrest of auto theft suspect
The suspect in multiple investigations of auto theft was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail Tuesday evening after a pursuit that started around 5 p.m. in Greene County and traveled several highways and county roads in Greene, Martin and Daviess counties, involving law enforcement personnel from at least seven different departments. Late Tuesday night, lead investigators Sgt. Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff's Department and Lt. Marvin Holt of the Bloomfield Police Department released the following information about the incident:
Greene County, Indiana - On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at approximately 4:50 p.m., a caller reported a suspicious male and female at 1172 E. State Road 58, the Co-Op gas station. The caller stated the subjects were trying to buy butane torch lighters and trying to sell their vehicle to patrons of the gas station.
Due to sheriff's deputies being out of position, Lt. Marvin Holt with the Bloomfield Police Department responded to the area to investigate. As Lt. Holt pulled into the parking lot, the male suspect and vehicle left the parking lot in a silver Ford Escape.
Lt. Holt attempted a traffic stop on the Escape and it fled northbound on US 231 towards Bloomfield. While Lt. Holt was in pursuit, Greene County Sheriff's Dispatch advised the vehicle was stolen out of Iowa.
Once the vehicle reached Bloomfield, the driver drove off the roadway near Furnace Road and proceeded east on Furnace Road.
Worthington Town Marshal Jake Gambill joined the pursuit at that time.
The vehicle continued east to E. Mineral-Koleen Road then turned south onto Fellows Ridge Road.
While traveling south, the driver of the Escape, later identified as Jonathan Jordan of Machanicsville, IA, swerved at two GCSD deputies nearly striking their patrol vehicles.
Jordan then traveled east on Harvest Church Road driving off the roadway then back on. Once Jordan reached US 231, he turned southbound running off the roadway.
As Jordan returned to the roadway, he swerved his vehicle towards Worthington Marshal Gambill's vehicle.
Jordan continued southbound on US 231 until he reached State Road 645 in Daviess County. He then turned east onto SR 645 towards the Burns City Crane gate. Once at the Crane gate, Jordan came to a stop.
Jordan then backed his vehicle into Worthington Marshal Gambill's patrol vehicle and was able to turn around.
Once Jordan got turned around, he traveled west on SR 645. At the intersection of SR 645 and US 231, Jordan disregarded the flashing red lights and proceeded west onto County Road 1125 N in Daviess County. Jordan then missed a 90-degree turn and drove through a yard to travel east on CR 1125 N.
Jordan then proceeded southbound on US 231 into Martin County and turned west onto CR 950 N. While traveling west, Jordan missed a 90-degree turn and struck an embankment disabling his vehicle.
Jordan and his passenger, Ashley Kleinhans, refused to exit the vehicle after the crash.
Deputies from Martin County, Daviess County, Officers from Loogootee Police Department and Troopers with the Indiana State Police arrived on scene to assist.
Daviess County SWAT team was able to break the back window with a spounge round and a chemical agent was released into the vehicle. A short time later, Jordan and Kleinhans exited the vehicle and were taken into custody.
Jordan was transported to Greene County General Hospital where he was medically cleared for incarceration. Kleinhans was released at the hospital for medical reasons.
Personnel assisted from numerous departments including: Bloomfield Police Department, Greene County Sheriff's Department, Worthington Police Department, Daviess County Sheriff's Department, Martin County Sheriff's Department, Loogootee Police Department, Indiana State Police, Greene County Ambulance Service, Daviess Community Hospital Ambulance Service, and the Martin County Fire Department.
