Truck-motorcycle accident results in death of Lyons man
A two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon on South County Road 800 West resulted in the death of a 23-year-old Lyons man.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD) responded to a call of a two-vehicle accident on South County Road 800 West, north of County Road 300 South at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Aug. 24.
According to a news release from the GCSD, a 2004 Dodge Ram driven by William Kaho of Lyons was pulling out of an access road after making a u-turn. When Kaho turned north onto County Road 800 North, his view was partially blocked by high vegetation. Kaho reportedly did not see an oncoming motorcycle. Kaho, according to the news release, made it halfway across the county road when he noticed a 2011 Suzuki GSX motorcycle traveling south toward him at a high rate of speed. Kaho stopped and attempted to back up. The driver of the motorcycle—23-year-old Maverick Johnson of Lyons— attempted to maneuver around Kaho’s vehicle but struck the front passenger corner. Johnson lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected. Both Johnson and the motorcycle left the roadway and came to rest in an adjacent soybean field. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaho was not injured.
GCSD Deputy Harvey Holt is investigating the accident. The GCSD was assisted at the scene by Lyons Fire Department, Greene County Ambulance Service, and Indiana State Police.
