A Worthington man was arrested and is facing drug charges after a Monday night traffic stop. A deputy reported he was in possession of methamphetamine and other controlled substances.

Barry Hunter Scroggins, 26, of rural Worthington, was arrested Monday night, May 18, by Deputy Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department following a traffic stop at the intersection of South Westgate Road and East State Road 58.

Scroggins was driving a gray 1994 Toyota T100 pickup truck but the license plate belonged to a gray 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. Scroggins said his Chevrolet broke down the day before so he put the plates on the Toyota which he just purchased about three weeks ago.

Deputy Allor reported that while they were talking, he detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and he asked Scroggins to exit and stand at the back of the vehicle. During a pat down to check for weapons, the deputy noticed a smoking device in a pocket and asked if it was a marijuana pipe. Scroggins allegedly said, “It is.” Scroggins then consented to a search of his vehicle.

According to Deputy Allor, he found two different kinds of pills, identified as amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, and clear plastic bags containing a white crystal substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine. Scroggins then allegedly admitted there was also Adderall and more pills and marijuana in the vehicle. Deputy Allor also found marijuana and hydrocodone.

Without incident, Scroggins was taken into custody and booked into the Greene County Jail around 10:44 p.m. He is being held without bond pending his appearance in court.

Criminal charges have been filed but the date of his initial hearing has not yet been set.
