Traffic stop leads to arrest for pot and paraphernalia
A July 17 traffic stop for an improperly functioning license plate light resulted in an arrest for charges of possession of marijana and paraphernalia.
Hunter Boldrey, 20, of Linton, was arrested by Linton Police Department Officer Cayden Walker.
While patrolling, Officer Walker observed a Dodge Ram traveling west on State Road 54 near Main Street. The truck’s license plate light was not functioning properly; therefore, Officer Walker initiated a traffic stop. As he approached the vehicle, Officer Walker detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Officer Walker asked the driver if there was anything in the vehicle he should be aware of. The driver replied with wax and a dab pen. The driver told Officer Walker the items did not belong to him, rather his brother, Boldrey, who was in the passenger seat. The driver showed Officer Pierce where the items were located. A clear glass container with a black lid containing a yellow wax substance was located in the center console. The dab pen was found in the glove box. Also found in the glove box was an orange and clear smoking device containing burnt residue.
Lieutenant Bobby Pierce of the Linton Police Department searched the floorboard of the vehicle and located a brown Taco Bell bag containing a red, black, and clear smoking device containing yellow liquid along with an orange and clear smoking device containing yellow liquid. Lt. Pierce also located a black and white rubber skull smoking device containing burnt residue.
The driver admitted the orange and clear smoking device was his but everything else located belonged to Boldrey. While talking to Boldrey, he first denied the items belonged to him. He later admitted the items were his when officers told him what the driver had said. Boldrey also told officers the wax was marijuana in wax form.
A passenger in the back seat denied any of the items belonging to him. He said the items were located in the front of the vehicle and must belong to the driver or Boldrey.
Boldrey’s bond was set at $1,000 surety with 10 percent cash allowed. He posted $100 and was released later the same day. Linton Police Officer Cayden Walker was the arresting officer.
He was charged with:
Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor
Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class C Misdemeanor
