A Linton man has been charged with possession of meth and marijuana as a result of a traffic stop in Bloomfield last week.

Jody Allen Cordell, 44, Linton, was arrested in Bloomfield by Lt. Marvin Holt and Deputy Marshal Brittany Ingram, both from the Bloomfield Police Department, following a traffic stop. Cordell was booked in around 1 a.m. on May 6.

Officer Ingram was on duty with Lt. Holt when Cordell, the driver of a red Honda, was stopped on the south side of Bloomfield for a license plate that was not illuminated.

In a probable cause affidavit prepared by Officer Ingram, she said Cordell admitted his driver’s license was suspended and that he didn’t have insurance or registration papers for the vehicle. Lt. Holt asked Cordell if he was under the influence of any substances and he said no. He did not show signs of impairment in field sobriety testing. When asked, Cordell said there was nothing illegal in the vehicle and allegedly told Lt. Holt he could go ahead and search his vehicle.

Officer Ingram reported that during the search, Lt. Holt found a baggie with a white powdery substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine, digital scales covered with green plant-like material, and smoking devices with residue as well as a few other items.
