Three orange pills in a wallet send Worthington man to jail

A rural Worthington man was arrested early Sunday during a traffic stop after a police officer reported he was driving left of center then failed to signal turns. Now he’s facing a drug charge because he didn’t have a prescription for the three orange pills allegedly found in his wallet.

Roy Dean Dicus

Roy Dean Dicus, 57, Worthington, was arrested by Officer Joe Riley of the Linton Police Department after Riley pulled him over around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, August 26, on a rural road north of Switz City.

Dicus was operating a silver Mitsubishi SUV when the officer reported seeing him drive left of center on County Road 100 North in Switz City, then fail to signal a left turn onto State Road 67 and another left turn onto County Road 600 West.

The stop was conducted at the intersection of County Road 600 West and 175 North.

When Officer Andrew Duguay of the Jasonville Police Department arrived with JPD K-9 Blitz, they conducted a sniff around the exterior of the vehicle and the K-9 gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Sgt. Logan Hobbs of the Linton Police Department also arrived to assist along with another officer. Dicus and a female passenger were asked to step outside the vehicle.

Riley reported Dicus gave consent to search his person and the vehicle and he was found with three small orange pills in his wallet which were field identified as amphetamine/dextroamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.

Dicus allegedly admitted he did not have a valid prescription for the pills.

Riley said nothing was recovered from the vehicle and nothing was found on the passenger.

Dicus was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail where he was initially held without bond pending a court appearance.

Possession of a controlled substance is a Class A misdemeanor.
