Investigation continues into shooting incident in eastern Greene County
An investigation into a shooting incident that took place early Tuesday near Hendricksville has been underway throughout the day.
As the situation unfolded Tuesday morning, officials were unavailable to provide confirmation or comment on the incident that’s now being reported as a murder-suicide with three individuals deceased.
Around noon Tuesday, Sgt. Curt Durnil, the public information officer for the Indiana State Police Bloomington District, did confirm that the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, the Indiana State Police and Indiana Conservation Officers were conducting a homicide investigation in the 7000 block of State Road 43, 1.5 miles south of Hendricksville in eastern Greene County.
At that same time, Sgt. Durnil stated the Greene County Sheriff advised there was no safety threat to the public regarding the incident.
According to Laura Lane of the Herald-Times in Bloomington, the incident occurred in a two-story home located directly behind the Union Church on State Road 43.
Lane, who was on the scene, reported a crowd of friends, neighbors and family members were gathered inside and outside the church while they waited for answers on Tuesday afternoon.
Two ambulances from the Greene County Ambulance Service arrived at the home at 2:35 p.m.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is the lead investigating agency in this case, assisted by ISP and other agencies.
As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, no further information was available, but another update will be posted whenever investigators release additional details, which may or may not be this evening.
