Thompson selected as new Greene County Clerk
After Greene County’s Clerk announced he was resigning from the position effective July 31, county Republican precinct committeemen were tasked with selecting a replacement. That replacement has been selected and she is ready to serve the residents of Greene County.
When Stuart Dowden announced his resignation, Jamie Thompson, who was serving as chief deputy in the treasurer’s office, put her name in for the position and was chosen to complete Dowden’s term.
Thompson, a life-long resident of Greene County, has worked in the treasurer’s office for eight years.
“I have held multiple positions in the treasurer's office with my current title being chief deputy treasurer. This position required cross training as well as facilitating a multi office and multi staff working environment,” Thompson said.
Thompson is looking forward to her new role, serving the public, learning, and absorbing all the knowledge that is headed her way.
“My goal is to cross train everyone in all areas so a job will never just fall on one person’s shoulders,” she said. “I would like the office to be cohesive, organized, positive, and a place where my employees enjoy coming to work.”
She said she would also like to change the public’s perception of the office.
“I know that it’s already not an easy thing for people to come into the office. I want to make their experience as pleasant as possible. A smile and kind words go a long way in making people feel valued and heard,” she said.
The clerk's office provides anything from copies of records, to marriage licenses, to taking payments for things such as child support, to filing court documents. The voter registration side handles all things election related.
