DATE CORRECTED: Thinking about running for school board? Filing window opens next week
DATE CORRECTED: Halea has been notified that she was given an incorrect date. Originally the story said the filing window ended on August 15. That was incorrect. The filing window runs from July 27 through August 26. The date in the story has been corrected.
Do you want to make a difference for the students in your school district by serving on the school board? You’re in luck as the petition filing time opens soon — July 27 and runs through Aug. 26 at noon — with open positions in all five Greene County school districts.
“To file to run for school board you have to get signatures on a petition. For metropolitan schools (Shakamak), the petition must be signed by 10 registered voters residing in the same board member district as the person running,” said Amanda Lewellyn of the Greene County Voter Registration Office. “For community schools, the petition must be signed by 10 registered voters residing within the boundaries of the school corporation.”
Petitions must be turned into the Voter Registration Office for verification. Employees will check signatures and addresses to the petition to ensure the required amount is obtained.
Candidate packets will be available at the Voter Registration Office, located in the Greene County Courthouse.
