Terre Haute man arrested after failing to pay over $30,000 in child support
A 37-year-old Terre Haute man was arrested on Jan. 25 on a warrant for two counts of neglect of a dependent after allegedly owing more than $31,000 in back child support payments.
According to a probable cause written by Greene County Prosecutor’s Office Investigator Julie Criger, John Leon Featherston owes $31,439.99 in court-ordered child support. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Oct. 12, 2023.
On Oct. 26, 2007, an order to establish support was filed in Greene Circuit Court. At that time, Featherston was ordered to pay $57 per week.
Since the court order was entered, Featherston has paid $14,468.07 in child support. The state intercepted tax payments totaling $2,029 from April 30, 2011 to May 23, 2015.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Featherston has not paid child support since Dec. 29, 2021. From Oct. 26, 2007 through June 30, 2014, Featherstone, per the probable cause, did knowingly fail to provide court-ordered child support for $11,731.56. From July 1, 2014 to Sept. 30, 2023, an additional $19,708.43 in arrears was accumulated. As of Sept. 30, 2023, he owed $31,439.99.
Featherston was arrested Jan. 25 and transported to Greene County Jail. For his warrant of neglect of a dependent, his bond was set at $31,439 surety with 10% cash allowed. He was also booked on a charge of contempt of court to which his bond was set at $2,000 cash only.
He appeared in Greene Superior Court Jan. 29 for an initial hearing.
