Taking family member's vehicle without permission results in arrest
An 18-year-old Linton man was arrested Nov. 22 on preliminary charges of theft of a motor vehicle after taking a family member’s vehicle without permission and failing to answer calls and texts to bring the vehicle back.
Logan Reed Plano was arrested by Greene County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Michael Stanley on a preliminary charge of theft of a motor vehicle, a Level 6 Felony after a family member reported a truck registered to her was allegedly taken by Plano without permission. Plano reportedly took the truck without permission and without ever having permission to drive the vehicle. The report was made at 10:13 p.m. on Nov. 21.
The vehicle was reportedly seen traveling west on East Broad Street in Lyons toward South State Road 67. The caller reported Plano was most likely at a residence in Linton or Switz City.
At approximately 5:33 a.m. on Nov. 22, the caller reported to dispatch that Plano had returned to the residence with the vehicle. At that time, Stanley and Linton Police Department’s Bobby Pierce went to the residence and took Plano into custody.
During an interview with Deputy Stanley, Plano initially said he normally drove the truck and used it to visit two people the prior evening, driving from Linton to Switz City, then back to Lyons. Later in the interview, Stanley asked Plano when he drove the truck last to which Plano responded it was the first time he had driven the truck.
During the interview, he also stated he allegedly texted the family member around 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 21 stating he was not stealing the vehicle or anything in it and would bring it back. Plano told Stanley he knew it wasn’t right to take the truck but if the caller was going to call the cops, she should have told him. He said he would have brought the truck home if it was going to be that much of a problem. Stanley said the caller was telling him to bring the truck home from the time he left. The caller reported she sent Plano text messages and called him to return the truck.
Plano was arrested by Deputy Michael Stanley when transported to Greene County Jail, bond was set at $4,000 surety with 10 percent allowed.
