Switz City man facing drug charges

A Switz City man was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop last week. A deputy reported finding meth, pot and pills in the vehicle.

Joseph Sherman Gibson

Joseph Sherman Gibson, 40, Switz City, was arrested by Sgt. Jordan Allor of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Gibson was booked into the Greene County Jail at 12:45 a.m. last Thursday, July 8, following a traffic stop late Wednesday, July 7.

Gibson was the driver of a red 2009 Pontiac G5 that was stopped at the intersection of County Road 1600 West and CR 150 North for having a license plate that belonged to another vehicle. Gibson told Sgt. Allor that he had just bought the car from his brother and the bill of sale was at his residence.

With Deputy William C. Walker assisting on the scene, the vehicle was inventoried prior to towing due to it not having a valid license plate.

During the inventory, the deputies reported finding a pouch under the driver’s seat that contained a zip bag containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine, a zip bag with green plant material that field-tested positive as marijuana, a cellophane wrapper with two orange pills identified as amphetamine and dextroamphetamine – a controlled substance, a digital scale with white residue and a smoking device with burnt plant material. On the front passenger floorboard, they located three marijuana plants planted in soil in red plastic cups.

Gibson allegedly said he’d just bought the car and did not know the items were inside. Sgt. Allor reported Gibson became belligerent toward both deputies but he was taken into custody and Deputy Walker transported Gibson to the sheriff’s department where he was booked into the Greene County Jail and held without bond pending court appearance.

When he appears in Greene Superior Court for an initial hearing, he will be formally charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony,

  • Possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, and

  • Possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
