Suspicious man with extremely erratic behavior arrested by LPD

An LPD officer confronting a suspicious man exhibiting extremely erratic and paranoid behavior, possibly drug-related, first took the man to the hospital for a medical check up then to the Greene County Jail.

Jacob Allen Robertson

Jacob Allen Robertson, 33, Vincennes, was arrested by Officer Wayman JR Blazier of the Linton Police Department last Wednesday, August 3.

LPD dispatch got a call last Wednesday around 2:10 PM from a clerk at the Friendly Porch gas station about a suspicious man inside the store who appeared to be under the influence of something or having a mental break. Dispatch also got a call from a driver who said they'd given the man a ride from Illinois to the gas station in Linton and he was acting extremely paranoid during the ride.

Officer Blazier was dispatched and found the man, later identified as Robertson, standing in front of the front counter near the clerk. As soon as Robertson saw the officer, he started getting very upset and nervous and jittery, hopping up and down and looking in all directions. When asked if he was alright, Robertson allegedly said “just a little high” as he continued to become more and more anxious. Robertson was sweating profusely and would not speak to the officer and was holding his hand over his paint pocket leading the officer to believe he might be concealing a weapon or trying to hide something.

Robertson was asked to put a drink down three times before he complied so the officer could do a pat down for weapons. Robertson tried to pull away, kept moving his hands and was continuing to shake as he stated, “F--- me, F--- me.” When asked what was going on, Robertson allegedly answered “drugs.”

When escorted out of the store to the officer’s patrol vehicle, Robertson allegedly started yelling and using profanity. He tried to pull away twice, was very paranoid and kept looking around the parking lot. After being seated in the patrol vehicle, he unbuckled his seat belt and kept sliding around the back seat so was placed in leg shackles.

On the way to Greene County General Hospital for a medical checkup, Robertson again got out of his seat belt and tried to climb into the front seat of the vehicle and the officer stopped the vehicle to secure him again. Robertson allegedly continue to yell and scream profanities while he was in the emergency room disrupting the rest of the emergency department.

Once cleared by medical staff, Jail Officer Angel Chaparro arrived to assist with transporting Robertson to the Greene County Jail due to multiple attempts by Robertson to get out of the vehicle. At one point Robertson was able to get the transport belt off and was able to reach through the partition between the front seat and the back seat of the vehicle and remove the bracket in an attempt to take the transport partition apart to get access to the driver’s area. He also allegedly tried to grab the seat belt of Officers Chaparro but the officer was able to remove his seat belt before an assault was committed.

Robertson was booked into the Greene County Jail at 5:47 PM. His bond was set at $2000 surety with 10% cash allowed.

The date for Robertson's initial hearing is not yet known but when he appears in Greene Superior Court for his initial hearing, he will be facing charges of:

  • Resisting law enforcement - knowingly or intentionally forcibly resisting, a Class A misdemeanor,

  • Refusal to aid an officer, a Class B misdemeanor,

  • Criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor, and

  • Disorderly conduct - engages in fighting or tumultuous conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
